Corporate Confusion: Climb the corporate ladder.
One rubber band at a time.

Pick a target. Pull back. Let go. Knock the mug off the desk, and don't let the manager see you.

Meet the office

Your coworkers. Not your targets.

Eleven people work here. Hit one and you get a warning. Hit the right one at the right time, and somebody else gets the blame.

  • Upstairs

    The Executive

Owns a watch that costs more than your desk.

  • Vice President

    Jackie

Watches the Director's floor. Only fire when she looks away.

  • Director

    Paul

Watches the Manager's Office from the hallway. You're on his time.

  • Management

    The Manager

Turns around at the worst possible moment.

  • Accounting

    Dave

Walks the aisle. Takes the blame.

  • Human Resources

    HR

Writes the pink slips. Sometimes takes them back.

  • IT

    Terry

Would like you to stop hitting the monitors.

  • Legal

    Meera

Has read the fine print. Did not like it.

  • Marketing

    Kevin

Brought a poster tube to a rubber band fight.

  • Sales

    Steve

Always on the phone. Always smiling.

  • Intern

    Kyle

    New here. Like you.

The view from your desk: the Manager glares over the next desk while coworkers stand around

How it plays

Pull with one thumb. Aim with the other.

You sit at your desk and look out across the office. The targets are across the aisle.

  1. Touch

Put your thumb where the band should catch.

  2. Pull back

Drag away from the target. The farther you pull, the harder it goes.

  3. Aim

Hold the band, and slide your other thumb up or down to aim higher or lower.

  4. Let go

The band flies. The mug falls. Things knock into other things.

Pull too far and the band snaps. Chain reactions count in your favor.

The rules

Make a mess. Don't get caught.

Finish the tasks on your sticky note. Everything else is your problem.

Three warnings and you're fired.

Hit a coworker, or fire while the manager is watching, and you get a warning. The third one comes on pink paper.

FINAL WARNING EXCEEDED

Your employment has been terminated effective immediately.

Please leave the stapler.

YOU'RE FIRED

Watch the manager.

!Turning aroundFinish your shot, fast.
!WatchingHold fire.

Blame Dave.

Hit the manager while Dave from Accounting is standing close by, and Dave takes the fall. No warning for you, and a bonus on your review.

Some days you get sent somewhere else: a meeting in the conference room, cake in the break room, new stock in the supply closet. Then it's back to your desk.

Pick the right band for the job.

Every band is a trade. Heavy bands move heavy things but don't aim well. Precise bands go where you point them but snap easily. You get new ones as you climb.
